Singapore Trip Day 1 : Arrival + Orchard

Last year I went to Singapore with my 4 besties after saving money together for almost a year, yay! Here is the story from the first day, enjoy!

We flew with the one and only Air Asia. Our flight was scheduled to take off at 08.40 so we agreed to gather by 06.40 at the latest. I was so excited since I experienced some first-time thing that day. From visiting Husein Sastranegara International Airport, flying with Air Asia, and obviously, going abroad 😂. Our plane flew swiftly and we landed faster than scheduled. Maybe the pilot was in hurry.

After taking our luggage, we set our phone to roaming connection while admiring the splendor Changi Airport. Of course I didn’t forget to rob Singapore tourism brochure at the information center.

As planned before, we got our brunch at the Staff Canteen which is famous for their cheap meals. The Staff Canteen was like a food court where there are many stalls. We ate nasi lemak and juice. The price is indeed cheap for Singapore’s standard. So, unfortunately, the food’s taste was just OK.

Since we still got our luggages with us, we decided to take Uber for going to the hostel. Our hostel was Moni Gallery Hostel, located in Lavender Street. We got a deal on 327 SGD for 3 nights via booking.com. We chose this hostel mostly because it had free cancellation fee and a private room for 5 of us so we got the whole room by ourselves.

Actually, it was not a time for checking in yet when we got there but the receptionist allowed us to deposit our luggages there. Thus, we proceed to Orchard Road. Finally it’s time to ride MRT, yeayy!

We only knew that the nearest MRT station was Boon Keng Station but we didn’t aware which way we had to take to go to the station, is it to the left or right? I don’t remember why I didn’t check google maps at that time. In the end we turned right just to find that we literally went around a block before reaching Boon Keng Station and realized that we should’ve turned left instead. 😆

We got off at the Orchard Station and entered Tang Plaza first. We visited Rubi Shoes store and I puzzled when Icus bought so many pairs of shoes and sandals saying that they all were her family’s order. I didn’t buy anything since I really didn’t have idea to go to Singapore just to buy shoes, hehe. She also bought tiger balm which I've never heard about. 😮Oh why am I so clueless~

Next stop was Lucky Plaza. Just like the casual Indonesian tourist, here we bought… souvenirs! Yes, we bought souvenirs on the very first day of our trip lol which later we slightly regreted. I bought t-shirts for my dad, mom, and sister, a tote bag, bags of chocolates, and key chains. The chocolates and key chains was mainly for Ezzy whom I attend the Korean class with and Citra who had been with me in the lab those days. At seven eleven I bought a pack of Yakult in various flavours.

We shopped till our throats said that they needed something fresh. So we went to McDonald’s. My eyes were automatically scanning the menu board, looking for something that isn’t sold in Indonesia’s McD and my choice went to lychee ice cone.

Before going back to the hostel we decided to have dinner at Lucky Plaza’s food court. It’s kinda difficult to find an empty spot since it was Saturday. After saving a spot to sit, we ordered tomyam. In one of the stall, we got curious by bandung ice and actually ordered it, just because the name. Later I found that bandung is a drink consists of evaporated milk flavoured with rose syrup, giving it a pink colour. This drink is popular in Singapore, Malaysia, and Brunei; and has no connection with Bandung in Indonesia, the city where we live in. 😁

We then going back to the hostel with full tummy and hands full with shopping bags >.< While organizing the stuff we bought, we recalled the day as a tough one, especially for a first day. It’s just our first day and we already had to put hot-in cream on our feet to relieve the fatigue we got from a lot of walking for shopping :D (Well, actually it’s our bad who don’t regularly exercise).

That’s it for the first day. See you on the next day! Psst, we’re going to Garden by The Bay! ^^
